Week 3

Getting ready for HDRi compositing.

Lab Session:

Video Tutorial: This is a very simple method of creating tank tracks and animating them. There are much better methods that allow more realistic and physics based approaches – this is much more for visual reference than a basis for animation.

Week 7 Character Design

Character Design Powerpoint available here. A brief introduction to character design and proccesses involved.

Suggested timeframe for development over the coming weeks is available here. Please try and stay on top of this part of the module as it is really difficult if you fall behind in this area!

BASEMODEL6.3ds for use with Max6

Video tutorial: File Stage 1. This is the base character model for the tutorial below. It has been unwrapped and is ready for skinning and for use in ZBrush. The tutorial below outlines the resizing of the Biped tool in 3ds Max for use with the skinning modifier.

Video tutorial: File Stage 2. This file is the pickup point from the tutorial above. The Biped is ready to work with the skin modifier in 3ds Max. This tutorial shows how to set up skin and edit envelopes and vertices to react properly for animation purposes.

File Stage 3. This file is the charatcer with the skin modifier in place. It is a good starting point to clean up the weighting of vertices in a character and practice mirroring the weighting.
